About Me

I had originally started this blog a few years ago as another outlet to express myself while I was going through some challenging times in my life. I wrote a few posts but then quit as life continued to get busier. Life has not slowed down any but I have recently rekindled my love of Genealogy and wanted a place where I could post about that. I tend to get on a roll at times and have stories I find or go on adventures that are interesting but never actually sit down and document them. I will print a page here or save a file there but I thought if I'd take the time to collect them in one place I'd be a tad more organized....

This blog and title I had created years ago really fit with what I want to accomplish with this blog today. One of my favorite songs by Jewel is "My Father's Daughter" which is where the line "The Dream of Generations" comes from. I always felt such a connection with that song and thought it'd work for a Theme for this blog.

How I got Started:
I'm extremely lucky in the fact that I have people on both my mom and dad's side of the family who have a great interest in genealogy. My aunt on my mom's side and my cousin's on my dad's side have all been really the inspiration of my now obsession!! My grandma on my mom's side also became the curator of many family heirlooms and pictures from both she and my grandpa's families. We have TUBS full of photos and letters and things from years ago. I'm in the never ending process of sorting and taking photos/scanning all the photos and letters to make sure I have a back up in case something were to happen to them.

Growing up my mom, aunts, grandma, and sister and I would go around to the different cemeteries each year on Memorial weekend and they'd recount all the names and some stories about each of the people. I regret that when I was younger I didn't quite pay attention to what they were saying. But luckily I took an interest before my aunt and grandma passed and got to learn some from both of them. I started writing things down and taking photos so that I could preserve those memories. Now some of my favorite places to visit are the many cemeteries where my ancestors are buried. To me cemeteries aren't creepy or scary but rather I find them to be peaceful and more often than not situated in a location with an amazing view!!

I know to some you may not have a connection to this blog because the people aren't your relation but I hope you enjoy the stories and I'm always looking for inspiration or ideas on how to become a better genealogist.

Happy Hunting!!
Erin
